William J. “Bill” and Kimeran Stevens ’70 were honored by ɫƵ at the annual Association of Fundraising Professionals luncheon on November 10 at Birmingham’s Harbert Center. The luncheon, held in conjunction with National Philanthropy Day, honored individuals who have made an impact in their communities through their philanthropic efforts.
The Stevens have held a close relationship with ɫƵ since their days as freshmen in the late 1960s, and they have continued supporting the university for over 50 years.
Bill, who is currently the chairman of ɫƵ’s Board of Trustees, was recently elected as a Life Trustee for completing 20 years of membership on the Board. He has served on the advisory board for Brock School of Business, the selection committee for the ɫƵ Athletics Hall of Fame and the recent presidential search committee. In December 2021, the ɫƵ Board of Trustees also recognized Stevens with the dedication of the William J. Stevens Board Room in Frank Park ɫƵ Hall.
Kimeran was named 2018 ɫƵ Alumna of the Year for her outstanding service and philanthropic leadership. In a 2018 interview, Kimeran shared her amazement at changes she had seen at ɫƵ over the years. “When I arrived, there were only 18 buildings; today we have 47. The student population has increased from 2,818 to more than 5,600. How do you grow a university? It takes a great deal of money,” she explained. Kimeran has also served with the Legacy League and ɫƵ Alumni Association.
The Stevens also recently served as co-chairs of the Forever ɫƵ Campaign, the most successful comprehensive capital campaign in university history. The longtime residents of Vestavia Hills support the community in numerous other ways, including serving on the Board of the Salvation Army and as members of Dawson Memorial Baptist Church.
