What do you think is the BEST thing about Cumberland?

The best thing about Cumberland is definitely the people, and that’s something I’ve felt since my very first visit and continue to experience to this day.

Why did you choose Cumberland?

I felt welcomed from day one, and I knew I wanted to be at a place where I could be challenged, but also where I would have the support I need and a good quality of life. Additionally, Cumberland’s nationally ranked trial advocacy program stood out to me, as well as the incredible sense of community among both the faculty and students.

What do you most enjoy about studying law in Birmingham? What do you like to do in Birmingham?

Besides being home, I love that Birmingham feels big enough to offer incredible legal opportunities, but small enough that you still feel connected to the community. You get to see firsthand the impact that lawyering has on people who live here. It’s also incredibly meaningful to study law in a city with such rich civil rights history where you’re constantly reminded of the importance of the work we’re preparing to do.

I really enjoy trying new restaurants and coffee shops, visiting Pepper Place Market, and going on walks at Railroad Park or other cool outdoor spaces around the city.

If you could give any advice to your pre-law school self, what would you say?

Embrace the journey! Becoming a lawyer is an exciting goal, but it’s important to enjoy the process along the way, from preparing for the LSAT to passing the bar. Embrace the challenges, growth, and learning that come with law school. It’s easy to get caught up in the pressure of grades and the “what ifs,” but remember that the experience itself will shape you in ways you may not expect.

What do you plan to do after graduation?

After graduation, I plan to practice law in the Southeast region, where I hope to contribute to the community and address legal issues specific to the area.
