Job Description
The Education Learning Commons (ELC) is seeking a motivated and dependable work-study student to join our team. The ELC Assistant helps maintain a welcoming, organized, and resource-rich environment for students, faculty, and staff. This role includes assisting with resource check-outs, basic technology support, space upkeep, event support, and helping students make effective use of ELC resources.

Key Responsibilities

Front Desk & Customer Service

• Greet and assist students, faculty, and visitors in a professional and welcoming manner
• Answer basic questions and provide information about available ELC resources
• Respond to phone and email inquiries or direct questions to the appropriate staff/faculty member

Resource & Materials Management

• Assist with the check-out and return of books and other ELC materials
• Maintain accurate records using the library/resource management system
• Help ensure materials are returned, shelved, and organized properly

Technology & Equipment Support

• Assist students with minor technical issues, including use of computers, printers, projectors, and other ELC equipment
• Troubleshoot basic issues and notify a supervisor when problems require additional support

Space Organization & Upkeep

• Help keep the Learning Commons, study areas, and supply spaces clean, organized, and welcoming
• Restock supplies, arrange furniture as needed, and support overall space maintenance
Student Support & Resource Guidance
• Help students locate books, study materials, and other academic resources
• Provide basic guidance on how to use ELC resources effectively

Administrative & Event Support

• Assist with administrative tasks such as updating records, preparing materials, and supporting ELC events, workshops, or activities
• Complete assigned tasks by stated deadlines and communicate when tasks are finished

General Expectations

• Maintain confidentiality when handling student, faculty, or departmental information
• Follow ELC procedures and supervisor instructions
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Student earnings will be paid biweekly in the form of a check or direct deposit payable to the student.

Required Qualifications
• Friendly, approachable demeanor with a strong customer service mindset
• Clear written and verbal communication skills
• Dependable, punctual, and responsible with assigned tasks
• Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
• Basic technical skills (computers, printers, and common software such as Microsoft Office or Google Workspace); training provided
• Good organizational skills and attention to detail
• Willingness to learn and ask questions when unsure

Prior experience with educational resources, libraries, or customer service is helpful but not required.
